1. Data Aggregation & Real-World Averages
Manufacturer claims are often based on ideal laboratory conditions, which rarely reflect a busy household. To determine a realistic lifespan, we cross-reference multiple data points:
- Independent Repair Statistics: We analyze data from certified mechanics, repair technicians, and appliance service logs to find out which parts fail first.
- Consumer Tracking: We aggregate thousands of long-term user reviews, filtering out the "honeymoon phase" reviews to focus on feedback written 2, 5, or 10 years after purchase.
- Warranty Analysis: The length and depth of a manufacturer's warranty is often the most honest indicator of how long they expect the product to survive without failure.
2. Material and Build Quality Analysis
Longevity comes down to what a product is made of. When evaluating items like appliances, tools, or electronics, we look for physical indicators of planned obsolescence:
